Getting it right
Three things that make a code actually get scanned.
Size it for the distance
A code needs to be roughly a tenth of the distance people scan it from. Four centimetres works on a card in someone’s hand; a shop window needs twenty or more.
Say what happens next
“Scan to message us on WhatsApp” beside the code outperforms a bare square every time. People will not scan something that does not say where it goes.
Pre-fill the context
Put the location or product in the message. When it arrives you already know which sign they scanned, without asking.

About WhatsApp QR codes
Does this QR code ever expire?
No. It encodes a permanent wa.me link to your number, so it keeps working for as long as that number is on WhatsApp. It is not a tracking redirect through us — there is nothing on our side that can go away.
What size should I print it at?
Download the SVG for anything printed. It is vector, so it stays sharp at any size, from a business card to a shop window. As a rule of thumb, a code needs to be about a tenth of the distance people scan it from — 4cm for a card, 20cm+ for a window.
Is this the same as the QR code in WhatsApp Business?
It achieves the same thing. WhatsApp Business generates a code for your own number inside the app; this generates one for any number, with a pre-filled message, in a format you can actually put into a print file.
Should I add a pre-filled message?
Usually yes, especially on printed material. A message like “Hi — I’m at the Dallas store” tells you instantly where the scan came from, which is context you would otherwise have to ask for.
Do you store the number I enter?
No. The code is generated in your browser using an encoder that runs locally. Nothing is uploaded, so we never see the number or the message.
PNG or SVG?
SVG for print and anywhere it might be resized. PNG for slides, social posts and email, where an image file is simpler. The PNG here exports at 1024×1024, which is large enough for most uses.
