Product Google Drive backup
Your conversations, in a folder you own.
Connect the workspace’s Google Drive and choose which conversations to archive. Each day becomes a plain text file, photos and videos land in a folder beside it, and everything said afterwards keeps archiving itself.
- 1Settings → Backup: connect the workspace’s Drive
- 2Open a conversation, switch Backup on
- 3Tick what travels — text, media, documents
- 4It archives, then keeps itself up to date
Why it exists
An archive you cannot open without us is not much of an archive
A conversation that decided a contract, a price or a delivery date is a business record, and business records end up somewhere a lawyer, an accountant or a successor can read them. A CSV export is a snapshot that starts going stale the moment it lands in a downloads folder, and an archive that only exists inside a product you might stop paying for is a hostage rather than a record.
Drive is the answer most teams already have. Files in dated folders, searchable by the search they use all day, shareable with somebody who has never heard of us, and sitting in an account that belongs to the business. What this does is keep that folder current without anyone remembering to.
What you get
In the product today.
One Drive for the workspace
An owner or admin connects one Google account and everything archives into it. Per-person connections would scatter copies of the same shared conversation across private accounts, and the archive would leave when its owner did.
A file per day, in year and month folders
Each chat gets a folder, each day with traffic gets a text file, and those sit under a year and a month. It reads like a log because that is the shape anybody searching an archive already knows how to work.
Photos, video and voice notes too
Media goes into a folder beside the transcripts, named by date and original filename so two receipts from different months do not collide. Voice notes, stickers and pasted images get the date, the kind and a short id instead.
A big video is uploaded once
Every file is remembered after its first upload, so a 40MB video is not sent again on the next sweep — which would burn your Drive quota and achieve nothing. Progress is counted in files rather than messages, because counting messages reports 99% while a 300MB video is the entire remainder.
Choose what goes, per conversation
Backup is switched on one chat at a time, and you pick which kinds travel: text, images, video, audio, voice notes, documents and stickers. Stickers are off by default. Nothing is archived until somebody turns it on.
It cannot see the rest of your Drive
The connection asks for per-file access to files it created, and nothing wider. It cannot list, open or touch your existing documents. The trade is that the destination folder has to be one we made, because an existing folder of yours is not something this permission can even see.
When you would use it
Situations this is for
- Keeping a client conversation where an accountant or a lawyer can read it.
- Handing a project archive to somebody who has no login here.
- A record of what was agreed that outlives whoever was holding the phone.
- Site photos and delivery videos filed by date without anybody filing them.
Questions
Google Drive backup — questions
Does it back up new messages automatically?
Yes. Once a conversation is switched on, anything said afterwards is archived without anyone doing anything. Media is picked up when its file finishes downloading rather than when the message arrived, so an attachment that lands minutes late is still archived.
How much of my Drive can it see?
Only the files it put there. The permission is per-file access to its own files, which is why it cannot use an existing folder of yours as the destination — it genuinely cannot see one. Google classes the broader permission as restricted; we did not ask for it.
Are big videos a problem?
They are uploaded once and then remembered, and a run takes a batch at a time rather than everything at once, so a chat with years of attachments fills in over several passes instead of stalling. A file Google refuses is skipped and retried rather than blocking everything behind it.
What happens if I disconnect?
The connection is cleared and every conversation stops archiving. Nothing already in Drive is deleted or altered — those files are yours. We also forget what was already uploaded, so reconnecting rebuilds a complete archive rather than resuming with a gap in the middle. The honest cost is that reconnecting the same account re-uploads the media.
Who is allowed to switch this on?
Anyone whose role carries the export permission — owners and admins by default, not members or read-only. Copying a conversation into a Google account is an export, so it uses the permission that already meant exactly that.
Which plan is this on?
Every plan, including Starter. It is limited by role rather than by price.
